Sarah's Summer Getaway

I got back from a weekend in Southern Wisconsin today. It was lovely to have some mommy-free time. Here's a rundown of some things I recommend:

Airline: If you ever have the chance to fly Midwest Airlines Signature Service, do so! Who can complain about every seat being a first class seat (they are unbelievably wide) and fresh, on-board baked chocolate chip cookies?

Movies: Jen and I saw No Reservations in the theater and watched The Holiday on DVD. Both were total "chick flicks" and I enjoyed every minute of each. Put them on your Netflix or Blockbuster lists!

Books: I'm completely, totally engrossed in the last Harry Potter book. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the best so far in my opinion. The characters are more grown up, and the quest they are on is definitely a page turner each chapter.

Broadway Shows: Wicked was so good! But I don't know if reading the book helped or hurt the experience. It was great going into the show knowing the basic premise. But they really portrayed Boq and Galinda in ways the book absolutely did not. I think I liked the book better, but the show was absolutely fantastic in costumes, set, and song. I especially liked "For Good." Believe me, I will never watch the 1939 classic version of "The Wizard of Oz" in the same way again. It was very fun to eat at the Walnut Room and then see the show in the Theater District of Chicago.

Even though it was a weekend of great girlfriend company (Thanks Jen and Kara!), good food, wonderful shows and movies - the kind I used to have a few years ago. The hug from my husband, smile and laugh from my dear babe, and welcome home lick from my dog reminded me why I love my life and where I'm at right now. But it sure was fun.

Wow -- that weekend away sounds fabulous! We are in the middle of Harry Potter too -- although so far I think it's one of my least favorites! Oh, and I totally agree about Midwest Airlines; the chocolate chip cookies are the best!
