Gardens, Birthdays, Babies

I'm pretty proud of our beginner attempts at gardening this year. In the back, we've expanded the vegetable garden to what will probably be its permanent (yet still managable) size. We've included cucumbers, tomatos, beans, chives, and a raspberry patch. We've used garlic granules and egg putrescence to create a scent barrier against the rabbits. In the front, we removed a tree, installed a bird bath on the stump, and turned an unsightly mess of wood chips and scraggly hostas into a fairly nice looking garden.

I had my birthday on the May 27. Two of my favorite presents were from Sarah. She gave me a deck of Celtic Meditation cards, which were incredibly unique. She also wrapped up Jim Brandenburg's book, Chased by the Light, which I've had on my list for a while. Chased by the Light turned out to be a meditative experience for me as well. I'm always inspired by the Northwoods. In addtion, Brandenburg's thoughts as well as the process in this particular work show such dedication to his craft that I couldn't help but be inspired to reflect on my own work.

I got to feel the baby kick this week. Only once, but definitely a solid boot.
